In it's essence, the fundamental political economic choice we face as citizen individuals is this: Will we choose to live within a society or feed on it?

Historically things haven't changed all that much. The masses, the public, the vast majority of people have always been subjects of those who would rule. It is no different for the modern American. Those who are unfettered by conscience or compassion for their fellow man can, and often do, rise to the upper echelons of our political economy. There are countless examples of those who have "done well" (for themselves) by doing evil. Likewise there are many more examples of those who suffered who chose not to inflict suffering upon others.
